The partnership between automakers and satellite radio providers has proven beneficial for both parties, though it may be that the satellite radio providers have benefitted more than the automakers from the arrangement. Be that as it may, though, the economic slowdown has now begun to affect even the most powerful automakers. Ford, Chevy and GM have all announced production cuts designed to reduce their expenses through a reduction in the number of vehicles produced.

How will the economic shift hit satellite radio providers, though? That has yet to be determined, but industry experts predict that they are in a better financial position than their automotive partners. The reduction in new vehicle installation is expected to be offset by consumer installation aftermarket. Though, the same experts are cautioning that this arrangement cannot last for very long. As the market slowdown begins to affect consumers, even these installations will begin to decline.

Who in their right mind pays for radio? That’s what I was thinking… until I got Sirius as a gift. It was an odd coincidence actually. A few days before I received my Sirius unit and subscription, I had been disgruntled trying to find some music on in my morning commute.
