A race of hunters and gatherers, the Baka Pygmies, found in Cameroon, live together with various ethnic groups of Bantu farmers, with whom they exchange goods.
With an average height of 1.5 metres, the Baka are, strictly speaking, pygmoids rather than pygmies. Nevertheless, in everyday usage, the term “pygmy” is employed.
The exact numbers is difficult to determine, as a semi-nomadic group, they roam the rain-forest taking up temporal residence in specific areas that offers rich games and natural resources, but estimates range from 5,000 to 28,000 individuals.

They occupy forest ecology and they exploit the gifts of nature or the ecosystem. Over the years important exchange relations have developed between the hunter-gatherer Baka and the neighbouring Bantu cultivators. However, this relation has been one of tolerance and characterized by hostility. The situation has been caused by the condescending attitude and derogatory comments with which the Bantu describe their Pygmy neighbours, looking upon the Baka as goods belonging to them, they are victims of racism and exploited in plantations as cheap labour.

As much as American’s love their electronics, the manufacture, use, and disposal of electronic devices all represent hazards to the environment and ultimately to human health. The manufacture of electronics involves mining- often strip mining- which is bad for the environment for obvious reasons and a number of caustic chemicals that are used to make circuit boards and other components. The use of electronics requires consuming electricity, which has a high impact because most of electricity is generated using fossil fuels and nuclear power. Plus the batteries that store the power that our electronics run off of are notoriously poisonous. And the disposal of electronics creates a hazard because of all of the heavy metals that they contain. (And not just the TV sets that have displayed MTV.)

All of the environmental impacts and hazards create a variety of good arguments in favor of recycling old electronics as much as possible. Recycling decreases the amount of mining that has to be done to acquire the raw materials needed to manufacture new electronics. Recycling requires less energy than processing the materials that go into electronics from their raw form. And recycling keeps all of the toxic materials that are contained in used electronics out of the environment so that they can’t do damage to the living things that rely on a clean environment.

The average American citizen has gradually become acclimated to broadband being a part of life. We use it to search for information, banking, checking utility, mortgage and stock accounts. But with high speed internet access being such a huge factor in our economy, is everyone converting fast enough to this new technology? In 2005, 30 percent of US households subscribed to these in-home services. That number increased to 42 percent household use in 2006 and gained again to total 47 percent in 2007. Accurate measurement of use in the USA is not clear, partly because of the scarcity of publicly available data.

Recent reports show that people increase activities online the more time they are connected. Dial-up subscribers are more likely to switch to services, the longer they spend online. Those people who do not want to make the switch are typically those with fewer computer skills and who are less online savvy. Users who sign up for services do so to process more information at greater speeds, but may be reluctant because of the overall price of services.

Microsoft Excel is an extremely dynamic application that by default automatically recalculates any changes you make to your Microsoft Excel worksheets. This capability in Microsoft Excel is called automatic calculation. Sometimes though you may find that due to the complexity and the size of your worksheet, you may want to control when the Microsoft Excel application recalculates your workbook or you may find that you just want a single worksheet to be recalculated.

To control when the Microsoft Excel application will recalculate the worksheet, you must first turn the default automatic calculation function to manual. The first step in doing this is to select the Tools menu and then select the Options command from the drop down menu. At this point the Options dialog box will appear.
